Rock in Haldern, Friday 6th August 2004Report and photos by Tina
Rock in Haldern is a small festival in NW Germany, so it was a big difference with Rock Werchter, where I saw them performing in July.
When I decided to go to Haldern to see Starsailor, I was also happy that Deus (a Belgian group) was performing just before Starsailor's gig. It was a few years since they played, so there were a lot of people also to see Deus performing. The Deus gig was also great but not the main reason for me being there . . .
Starsailor started at 23:15h, for me it was clear that they like more to perform in the evening. James was in a very good mood. He was acting crazy while he was playing on his guitar. Stel was looking good as well in his white sweater. Ben was at the back, mostly covered in smoke from the smoke machine. Barry I was not able to see him from where I was standing.
James was talking a bit in German to the crowd. We where standing on first row, I yelled that he had to say hello to Belgium and he noticed it. He spoke to the crowd and said that there where some 2 nice girls from Belgium on the first row.
They played the best songs from the 1st (Alcoholic, Tie up my hands) and 2nd album (Silence is Easy, Four to the Floor, Born Again) and also they played 2 brand new songs!!!! One of them was very good for sure, it has a melody that once you hear it, it keeps going around in your head. Now I heard the songs I'm really looking forward for the new CD to come out, the new songs where again a bit melancholic and I personally like this a lot.
At the end of the gig they closed with a long version of Good Souls, which always does it for me. I had a great time and could not wait to see them again . . . the day after at Dranouter festival in Belgium!
