Tina's report and photos from Pukkelpop 2003Friday 29th August 2003, Belgium
It was the last weekend of August, as I work for a video production company, I have the opportunity to go to the festival and see all bands from very near by. The company that I work for does all the video recordings of the festival.
The last few years I have seen a lot of bands performing, some of them were already very famous, but none of them could make such a big impression on me as Starsailor did that day. They started very enthusiastic with Music Was Saved.
After this song James told about last time they played at Pukkelpop, it was in a tent for only 50 people. So he was happy to be on main stage seeing a big crowd, he said: "Maybe some remember?" And then they played Alcoholic. This is a song that I heard before on the radio, for the rest I didn't know much about the group, so I didn't know what to expect. I was charmed immediately by James and the rest of the band. Not only me, also had the weather gods liked it! The previous days it was raining all day and the whole festival terrain was full of mud, people where evacuated at night from their tents. But now the sun began shining!!!
The band played Poor Misguided Fool followed by Fidelity. Then James did a small part of U2's song All I want is You and these are the right words to sing! All I want is him! He's really great!!!
Then he announces to bring a disco song and he invites the audience to dance with him on Four to the Floor, after this they did Born Again. James had a small talk with the crowd to come to the concert at Ancienne Belgique on the 3rd of November and that the new album would be released at the 15th of September.
I knew I had to remember the dates because I really wanted to buy the album and to see them again in concert.
Silence Is Easy was the next song. James announced that he had to do his last song and that the audience sure wanted to see Granddaddy and the Foo Fighters later on and ended with Good Souls. "Thank you very much, you've been great!" were his words at the end of the song, he also sang "one day of the week I love you Belgium".
